landscape painting class

Plein-Air Painting

Instructor: Steve Forster

Steve Forster has studied at the Florence Academy of Art and holds an M.F.A. (May 2010) from the New York Academy of Art, where he also teaches plein-air painting. This class is for anyone interested in exploring the challenges and rewards of painting outdoors, from beginners to experienced painters. We will focus on painting directly from observation in a variety of different locations.

Materials List:

Supports:


Preferably 16X20 or 11x14 or 8x10 Canvas or Linen toned with a neutral gray or a color of the painter’s
preferences to about a value of 4 on a value scale of 1-10. This would include supports such as canvas
panels, stretched canvas, and wooden panels.

Shellac (Amber or Clear) on Good Paper (Stonehenge, 160lb or more hot press watercolor paper any
brand, Rives BFK,ect.)

Decent Palette with ample space for mixing

Paper Towels and Masking Tape

Paint Colors- Ultramarine Blue, Viridian, Cobalt Teal, Raw Umber, Burnt Sienna, Alizarin Crimson, Cad
Red., Yellow Ochre, Cad. Yellow, Titanium White

Brushes-will discuss

Mediums: No harsh Turpentine.
Linseed Oil with Gamsol
Liquin
Maroger’s Medium
Neo-Megilp

Extras:
Claude Mirror (will discuss)
