Please note: This course overlaps with the Sculpture For Young Artists course from 6:15-7:45, during which time adults and teens will have concentrated studio time with limited instruction. From 7:45 to 9:15 the instructor will provide focused instruction.

Course Description:
Many of the finest sculptors came from the French Academy in the 19th century.  This course will introduce students to the same techniques and methodology that were used in this golden age of sculpture.  Students will learn to “draw in space” as they copy casts from Michelangelo’s iconic “David”, creating a firm foundation for sculpting the portrait and figure. This summer we will focus on the nose and mouth, and this fall we will develop the eye and ear–all with the goal of working from the live model following this curriculum. If you are interested in figurative sculpture but have limited experience or a lack of confidence, this is the class for you! The instructor will teach you how to handle the tools, how to use a system of sculpting that translates well into any future projects, and how to see the subtle rhythms that make a sculpture seem to come alive. Tuition includes materials fee.
