  • Students work indoors from their own small studies or from reference photos to create larger, fully realized landscapes. The instructor focuses on the choices an artist makes regarding composition, light effects, and color when translating imagery from the simplified qualities of reference materials into a completed large-scale painting.
  • Painting:

    • Paper Towels and/or Cotton Rags
    • canvas or panel (9″ x 12″ or 12″ x 16″ suggested)
    • Palette
    • Oil Painting Medium (Stand Oil or Liquin Original are standard. The instructor likes “Oleogel” by Natural Pigments)
    • Gamsol (odorless Mineral Spirits)
    • Resealable Jar of OMS (for cleaning brushes while painting)
    • Palette knife
    • Artist’s Tape

    • Flat # 12, 6, 2

    Bristle Brushes

    • Filbert # 4, 3
    • Rounds # 4, 2
    Artist Grade Oils:

      REQUIRED:

    • Titanium White
    • Blue black or Cold Black
    • Quinacridone Magenta
    • Cadmium Lemon, Hanza Yellow, OR Cad Yellow Light
    • Cobalt Teal
    • RECOMMENDED:

    • Indian Yellow
    • Alizarin Crimson Permanent
    • Ultramarine Blue
