Robert Armetta Receives Distinguished Service Award

We are pleased to announce that Robert Armetta, Founder and Director of the Long Island Academy of Fine Art, has been honored with the 2011 Distinguished Service Award by the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts, in Old Lyme, CT.

Lyme Academy College's President, Debra Petke, and Dean, Laura Zarrow, wrote,

"The Award is given annually to an outstanding art educator whose work advances the development and appreciation of the arts. Under your leadership, the Long Island Academy of Fine Art has brought the time-honored approaches of classical, academic fine arts practice to a whole new generation of students. We have enormous respect for all you have accomplished."

Armetta received the award during the graduation ceremony at the Lyme Academy College on May 21st. Our warmest CONGRATULATIONS to Armetta, and to all of our students, whose topnotch work and passion for their studies at LIAFA were also noted in a speech that day.

College Portfolio Review Day

Friday, November 12th, 6 p.m.

Open to high-school students from Long Island and greater New York. All students are welcome to bring in their portfolio for review by a college admissions representative. Pratt Institute, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts, the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and others will offer advice on how to make your portfolio more appealing to art colleges.

December 15th - December 18th. Paul DeLorenzo Workshop Series a Success. On December 15th through December 18th, the Long Island Academy of Fine Art was happy to host a Portrait Painting workshop series with Paul DeLorenzo. Paul introduced students to the sight-size method and students created monochromatic portrait paintings.

All Long Island High School students welcome. Join us for this years High School Art Portfolio Review Day. Portfolio reviews will be offered by the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art and the Savannah College of Art & Design. James Daga Albinson will be lecturing on portfolio do's and dont's. Utrecht, one of the nations leading art supply stores, will be offering special portfolio case discounts on site. James and Instructor Leeanna Chipana will be offering portfolio critiques as well.

The Long Island Academy of Fine Art is pleased to announce its Second Annual High School Art Competition. This competition is open to all Suffolk and Nassau County High School art students. This competition is closed.

Leeanna Chipana and the Long Island High School for the Arts

August 2009 - Leeanna has recently been hired as drawing instructor for the Long Island High School for the Arts (LIHSA) located in Syosset, NY. LIHSA is an art high school with programs in literature, drama, music and art. Graduates from LIHSA have gone on to study at schools like Julliard and Cooper Union.




Florence in the Hamptons a Success!

July 2009 - LIAFA hosted a special "Florence in the Hamptons" series in August of 2009. Ramiro and Toby Wright, the two head painting instructors at the Florence Academy of Art, were invited by James Daga Albinson to offer two weekend-long workshops, giving LIAFA students an exclusive chance to experience a Florence Academy classroom. Students produced beautiful portraits through the use of time-honored methods and techniques based on the great masters of the Renaissance. Ramiro's work can currently be viewed at the Grenning Gallery of Sag Harbor, NY.


 

OPEN HOUSE A SUCCESS


LIAFA kicked off the new year by hosting its first Open House on January 3rd of 2009 at both the Riverhead and Glen Cove locations. Instructors were on-site offering free portfolio reviews to high school students while staff accommodated walk-ins. The event, which was open to the public, attracted many local artists who were anxious to learn about LIAFA's new course offerings. "I was delighted by the turnout," said Director Robert Armetta.
