Session A: September 22 – October 27
Session B: November 3 – December 15 (no class November 24)
Join Manu Saluja in a virtual classroom using Zoom and learn to paint portraits with solid dimension and beautiful skin tones. Each class begins with a 30-40 minute synchronous (“live”) lesson or demonstration covering topics such as perspective, proportion, values and color theory and features of the human head. Portrait reference is provided to you in digital format to use as you work from your home studio – both professionally photographed models and Old Master drawings and paintings. Every week students also receive personalized one-on-one feedback in a supportive environment. In addition to the demos and critiques, students have access to several YouTube demonstrations prerecorded by the instructor for the duration of the course.
Students can opt to draw and may use their own portrait reference upon approval by the instructor. The course trajectory over 6 weeks is as follows:
1. Action, Proportion and Shadows
2. Mixing the Palette, Color Note, Background and Hair
3. Forehead and Eyes
4. Cheeks and Nose
5. Lips and Chin
6. Finishing Touches
Please note that you may need only drawing or only painting materials for this class, depending on your individual needs. Please check with your instructor before you purchase materials.
