The Illustration class will explore traditional media such as watercolor, acrylic paint and black ink for learning various techniques, textures and color theory. This course establishes the fundamentals of pictorial language, critical thinking, composition, and rendering skills. Students will use traditional drawing and painting techniques to complete artwork and develop the work habits necessary to execute successful thumbnail sketches and final illustrations. Students will learn to create a wide variety of illustration projects, imitating real-world assignments for newspapers, magazines, advertising, and children’s book illustrations.
This class lends itself well to digital media. Students may bring a tablet and stylus if they choose to do so. We recommend an iPad or iPad Pro with the Apple Pencil. Procreate app will be used in class for digital students.
